What is Mechanical Engineering?
Mechanical engineering is a fastidious and thorough study of machines, their mechanism, use, operation and maintenance. It is a synthesis of the theories of engineering, physics and materials science with design, manufacture, analysis and maintenance of mechanical equipment and it includes subjects from Materials to Manufacturing and other papers of management. Mechanical engineers have to learn seriously about mechanical systems of materials, thermodynamics, solid and fluid mechanism, heat transfer, instrumentation, control, design and manufacturing.
Area of Mechanical Engineering
The core areas of mechanical engineering are: mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, and electricity. The other areas of mechanical engineering include: automotive, energy conversion, environmental control, aerospace, micro electro mechanical systems, computers and electronics, biotechnology, automation, etc. Besides, mechanical engineers will have to depend on the use of tools like computer-aided design (CAD), and product life cycle management to design and analyse manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, transportation systems, robotics, heating and cooling mechanism, aircraft, watercraft, medical devices, weapons, and others.
Mechanical engineers have plenty of opportunities in Automobiles and Production Engineering. Mechanical Engineering is considered to have the highest rank among all other branches of engineering. It is because production, the most important area of human life, needs machines and their effective operation. On completing mechanical engineering, students can specialise their Master’s in manufacturing, thermal, machine design, management, mechatronics, nano technology and robotics.
