Chemical Engineering is a technical study of design, construction, development of processes and operation of mechanical apparatus and plants which are needed for the production of chemicals. As a hybrid of physical sciences (physics and chemistry), life sciences (microbiology and biochemistry) and applied mathematics and economics chemical engineering focuses on designing large-scale processes that process raw materials, living cells and microorganisms into useful forms and products.

The major areas of Chemical Engineering are: chemical reaction engineering which involves controlling processes and conditions plant construction to ensure maximum benefit, plant design and construction which involves economic analysis, specification and the creation of plans, process design and analysis which involves preparing reactants, purifying and separating its products, recycling unspent reactants, and controlling energy transfer in reactors and transport phenomena which involves analysis and modelling of transport for many industrial applications.
